Conduit Clamps

When running any length of conduit for an electrical system there will always be a need for conduit clamps. These clamps help secure the conduit to a solid surface so it keeps all the internal wiring straight and out of the way for better performance. There are as many types of clamps as there are conduit and fittings, and picking the right one for the job is just as crucial. A steel clamps used in a wet or corrosive environment will cause the clamps to prematurely rust and give way leaving the conduit exposed and in danger of shorting out. A PVC conduit clamps would be a safer and more cost effective alternative when a liquid tight system is being used. Clamps not only provide support for the wiring system, but they are also part of the building code. All electrical codes will specify when and where a certain type of clamps is to be used. A conduit clamps comes in so many different configurations because there are so many different needs for them. They must be able to secure rigid or flexible conduits running across, parallel, or perpendicular to beams, channels, cable tray, or angled supports. It is good if they are able to accommodate conduit in all trade sizes from 1/2" - 6" and even better if they can swivel 360 degrees for easier installation. Depending on where they are to be mounted some clamps are able to be installed without any drilling. When using conduit clamps is being used the load that will be carried by the clamps must be taken into account. If there is too much weight in one section of the wiring system the clamps will give out and cause very serious damage to the system or anybody around it. There may even be a recommended torque for the setting screws when installing the clamps. As you can see using clamps when running a conduit system is not just as easy as nailing or screwing them to a surface.
