In all electrical work regardless of the application there is a need for conduit fittings. Whether you are a
general contractor building a high rise condominium or a do it yourself homeowner that wants to install landscape
lighting if there is electrical work you will need such products. There are a number of types of conduit fittings
that can be used in today's electrical field. Some are steel, galvanized steel, zinc, insulated plastic,
PVC coated, or aluminum. Depending on the type of electrical work being done it is very important that the
correct fitting is used to prevent electrical shorts or possibly even a fire. It is always a good idea to
consult or hire a licensed electrician when doing electrical work to make sure the right products are being used.
Conduit fittings can be a bit tricky to work with if you do not have much experience doing electrical work.
There are so many different types and sizes it can be easy to make a simple mistake that could turn out to be
the cause of a more major problem down the road. Always make sure all fittings and conduit are approved for
use by your local and state building codes. Conduit fittings are used to connect conduit piping together or to
junction boxes. They can be threaded fittings where they are connected and tightened down in the junction box
like a nut and bolt would.
Non-threaded fittings are secured by either using set screws or compression nuts that
encircle the conduit. Making sure the conduit and fittings are properly grounded is a must for safe work.
Many conduit fittings are considered sufficiently conductive which means they are able to electrically unite the metal
conduit to the metal junction box by sharing the boxes ground connection. Other times grounding bushings must
be used which have bonding jumpers leading from the bushing to a grounding screw on the box.
