Rigid Conduit Fittings

Rigid conduit fittings are the most common type of fitting for electrical applications. They are typically made of steel, but can also be manufactured out of aluminum. Rigid non-metallic fittings are made of heavy duty plastics. These fittings are usually only used in wet or corrosive environments. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be used for many different types of electrical wiring systems. Whether it be a typical construction environment or in a heavy duty corrosive environment such as a chemical plant these fittings can handle the job of protecting the vital components. Protecting wiring with the proper conduits and fittings is crucial to the life of the system. Repair and maintenance caused by incorrect wiring procedures can add unnecessary costs to the project and create unsafe environments. The most common types of these are adapters, bulkheads, caps, couplings, elbows, sweeps, and bends. They come in both straight and angled varieties. Adapters connect two different types of pipes while bulkheads mount in walls and allow for connections on either side of the wall. Caps dead end the flow of electricity by covering the outside end of pipes, and couplings join two types of conduits. Elbows, sweeps, and bends allow for an angled change in direction and will have a curve or radius to allow for a smoother transition. Other types of rigid conduit fittings include expansion joints, flanges, goosenecks, nipples, and reducers. Expansion joints connect sections of pipe and allow for movement due to service loads, shock, or changes in temperature. Flanges provide mounting geometry while goosenecks are used for wiring lamps or underground landscape lighting. Nipples have male threaded ends that allow for joining two pieces of conduit. Reducers are used to connect conduits of different sizes. Rigid conduit fittings come in so many different sizes, shapes, and materials it is recommended to consult with a licensed electrician before doing any electrical work.
